  • Better Eyesight: The Complete Magazines of William H Bates edited by Thomas R Quackenbush

This is a true labor of love.  It took Tom over 15 years to find every ‘magazine’ that Bates wrote between July 1919 and June 1930.  And he did.  All 132 issues.  Very insightful.

  • Relearning to See:  Improve Your Eyesight Naturally! by Thomas R Quackenbush

This is one of the most complete and scholarly works you will find on the human vision system and natural vision improvement.  Tom has written a comprehensive work.  A ‘must have’ for those who want to fully understand our visual system.

  • Natural Vision Improvement by Janet Goodrich

An entertaining approach, Janet also looks at the emotional components of visual blur and has an assessment of myopia (nearsightedness).  She also has a book written for children.

  • Better Eyesight Without Glasses by William H Bates

Yes, Bates’ book is still available.  This is his original work.

  • Eyebody: The Art of Integrating Eye, Brain, and Body by Peter Grunwald

Peter has written about his very interesting approach based on his background as an Alexander Technique teacher.  He also writes extensively about the parts of the brain and eye and the role they play in our visual system.

  • The Visual Handbook:  The Complete Guide to Seeing More Clearly by John Selby

This out of print can be found on web.  John has an interesting approach which includes extensive breath work.  He currently does meditation work, and has a very interesting web site.

  • The Program for Better Vision:  How to See Better in Minutes a Day Without Glasses or Contacts by Martin Sussman

So far this is the most straight forward easy to follow book on natural vision improvement than I have found.

  • Emotional Genius: Discovering the Deepest Language of the Soul by Karla McLaren

Although not a book on natural vision improvement, it is a profound work.  It speaks to emotions as messengers which is an interesting approach and highly effective way to work with emotions.  Karla clearly defines the role of emotions and the questions to ask onesself.  Since visual blur is often initiated by emotional repression or trauma, I find this a ‘must read’ addition to anyone’s library.

  • The Art of Seeing by Aldous Huxley

An elegant and comprehensive work based on the Bates Method which Huxley used to restore his vision from blindness.  He coined the phrase ‘dynamic relaxation’ to describe the optimal state for perfect vision.
